Southington rolls to first CCC Tournament Title

The Southington Blue Knights took control from the opening tip and rolled to a 72-47 win over Number one seed East Catholic to claim the CCC Girls Basketball Tournament title for the first time.
Southington led by 20 at halftime and added to the lead with two quick baskets out of the gate to open the second half. The Knights used a stifling defense to hold the Eagles to their second lowest point total of the season. The loss snapped an 18-game win streak for East Catholic.
Southington was hot from the start, racing to a 26-10 first quarter lead. The Blue Knights hit 11 shots in the opening quarter while forcing the Eagles into numerous turnovers.

Southington was seeded 2nd in the tournament and advance to the finals for the first time by beating South Windsor, Berlin and Northwest Catholic, the state’s number one ranked team. The win was the 18th in a row for Southington who finished the tournament at 23-1.
East Catholic was the top seeded team in the tournament and reached the final with wins over Lewis Mills, Glastonbury and Windsor.
Izzy Legget led the Blue Knights wigh 21 points, 15 of those in the first half. Southington had a balanced attack with ten different players scoring.
East Catholic was led by Urielle Afoakwa-Abrokwa who had 12 points.

Windsor Wins 2024 CCC Title
The Windsor Warriors broke open a close game with a late second quarter surge to open a nine-point halftime edge and steadily added to the advantage over the second half to
defeat #2 seed Northwest Catholic 66-52 to claim their first CCC Tournament Championship since 2007.
Senior Ayanna Franks hit the 2,000th point of her career with time running down in the half. She went on to finish the game with 13 points and run her career scoring mark to 2,004. Transfer Kamaria Bowens had 19 and Mikaela Williams scored 17 to anchor a balanced Warrior scoring attack.
The two teams battled closely through the first quarter and a half before the Warriors went on a 14-5 run to close the half. Northwest Catholic stayed even for much of the
second half but was never able to overcome the deficit as the Warriors countered every attempt at a run by the Lions. With high scoring Abigail Casper was sidelined by injury in the third quarter and the Lions were not able to find the scoring punch needed to close the deficit. Casper had 16 points and Maeve Stanton led the Lions with 18.
Windsor was the 12 seed in the tournament and became the lowest seeded team ever to win the title. The Warriors
went through three of the state’s top ten ranked teams to earn the championship with wins over Newington, Conard and Northwest Catholic. Windsor opened the tournament with a victory over E.O. Smith.
Northwest Catholic was the #2 seed in the tournament and reached the finals by defeating Manchester, Rocky Hill and defending champion Simsbury.
Windsor won the CCC’s inauguaral Girls Basketball Tournament by defeating Fermi in 2007 but had not appeared in the finals since. The Warriors ended the tournament on a nine-game win streak after struggling through the early weeks of the season.

2023 Girls Basketball Tournament Champions – Simsbury
Simsbury wins 2023 Girls Basketball Tournament
Simsbury won its first CCC Girls Basketball tournament title with a hard fought 40-37 win over a determined Conard squad at the University of Hartford Chase Family Arena. The Trojans jumped out to a big early lead, but had to hang on down the stretch as Conard battled back to within a point in the final minutes.
Faye Kaplinski’s 12 first half points helped Simsbury to a 25-13 halftime edge, but the sixth seeded Red Wolves, coming off a semi-final upset of E.O. Smith, battled back in the second half to cut the lead to one twice, the last at 38-37 with under a minute to play.
Conard fought back into the game with a strong third period when they held Simsbury to just four points. Emily Knowles sparked the comeback for the Wolves with 10 of her 12 points coming in the second half.
Simsbury hit 7 of 11 free throws in the final period to maintain their edge. Kaplinski and Amanda Gallagher each had four big points down the stretch. Kaplinski finished with a game high 18 points.
Simsbury reach the final by knocking off top seed and pre-tournament favorite Newington 49-46 in the semi finals. It was a game similar to the finals as the Trojans jumped out to a 15-3 first quarter lead and held on for the win. Simsbury beat Bristol Central in the quarterfinals and Rocky Hill in the opening round.
Conard reached the championship round for the first time by beating third seed E.O. Smith 34-30 in the semi final The Red Wolves defeated South Windsor 72-45 in the opening round and downed Glastonbury 45-36 in the quarterfinals.

East Hartford wins 2022 Girls Basketball Tournament

Kayla Henry hit a three-point buzzer beater to lift East Hartford to its first ever CCC Girls Basketball Tournament title with a 31-30 win over defending champion Newington. Henry’s basket came after Newington’s Lilly Ferguson had given the Nor’easters the lead with 3.7 seconds left in the game.
In a game in which both teams struggled to score against stifling defenses on both sides, Newington held the ball for most of the final minute looking for the last shot in a 28-28 tie. They got the foul call to allow Ferguson to put them in the lead, but Henry calmly let the game winner fly from the corner off the inbounds pass to give the Hornets the win.
Both teams finished the tournament at 22-2. Both of Newington’s losses came at the hands of East Hartford.THe Hornets’ Shailyn Pinkney had 17 points in the final to lead her team. Ferguson led all scorers for Newington with 14.
East Hartford reach the finals by coming back from a12 point deficit to beat Windsor in the semifinals. Newington defeated Southington in the other semi final matchup. East Hartford defeated Glastonbury and Simsbury in the opening matches. Top seeded Newington beat Bristol Eastern and EO Smith in the preliminary rounds.
