Newington Claims 2021 Tournament Title
Newington wrapped up an undefeated season with a solid 52-40 win over Windsor to win its first ever CCC Tournament championship.

Newington wrapped up an undefeated season with a solid 52-40 win over Windsor to win its first ever CCC Tournament championship. Led by Lily Ferguson’s 17 points, Newington took control of the game early and used a stifling defense to shut down a high powered Windsor offense.

Newington led 16-2 after one period and although the Warriors were able to chip away at that lead the rest of he way, they were never able to overcome the big early deficit. The Warriors cut the gap to four as they trailed 22-18 at the half, but Newington came out strong to start the second half and extended the lead to double digits. Newington’s aggressive defensive play made the lead stand up down the stretch.

Ferguson led all scorers for Newingtion and senior Alexie Aromour had 10. Junior Karissa Zocco had three 3-pointers and finished with nine points for Newington. Newington completed a perfect 15-0 season. Senior Rebecca Frayley had 17 points and Nylah Wells added 10 to lead the Warriors who finished the season at 12-2 after starting the year with a series of shutdowns due to COVID 19.

To reach the finals, Newington defeated Bristol Eastern 55-35 in the opening round and downed a tough Southington team 49-32 in the semis. Windsor advanced by beating Simsbury 41-30 in the semis.

The CCC also ran three other post season tournaments. Glastonbury beat Wethersfield 55-21 to win the Division 2 tourney. RHAM downed Hall 42-30 in Division 3 and Avon rallied to beat Bristol Central 33-29 for the Division 4 championship.
