Windsor Wins CCC Title for 9th Time

With time running down on the shot clock, Anthony Williams hit a three pointer with10.5 seconds left in the game to clinch the CCC championship for Windsor over defending champ East Catholic.  Williams shot came off an inbounds play with two seconds remaining on the shot clock and gave the Warriors a four point lead. A tip in by the Eagles at the buzzer produced the final 63-61 margin.

East Catholic led by five at the half, but the Eagles shooting went cold and the Warriors climbed back into the game wih aggressive third quarter defense. The Eagles scored just eight points in the third period as Windsor took a 44-41 lead.

Windsor ran the margin to eight points in the fourth quarter before the Eagles rallied again to cut the lead to one with 47 seconds remaining.

Windsor ran the shot clock down to the final two seconds before the ball was tipped out of bounds by an East Catholic defender. The inbounds pass went to Williams who took one step and launched the game clincher.

Williams finished the game with 28 points to lead Windsor. Sean Evans added 12 for the Warriors. Samson Reilly led all scorers with 31 for East Catholic including the last five points that brought the Eagles to within one in the final minute. Yayo Rodriguez had 14 and Brayden Jones 10 for East Catholic.

The win was Windsor’s second of the season over the Eagles who have lost to no other in-state team in the last two years. It was the ninth CCC Tournament title and the first since 2019 for the Warriors.

Windsor reached the final with victories over RHAM, Bristol Eastern and Farmington. East Catholic downed Enfield, Conard and Newington enroute to its eight championship appearance in the last nine years.
