Weaver rolled to a 58-49 win over E.O. Smith to claim its first ever CCC Tournament championship at New Britain High School. The Beavers claimed the title by avenging their only two regualr season loses with a 65-51 win over South Windsor in the semi finals and the victory over EO Smith in the finals.
Weaver scored 24 first quarter points and never looked back although they needed to rally down the stretch after the Panthers cut a 17-point deficit to five with just over six minutes remaining. Junior DeJane James led the way for Weaver with 21 points including an 8-for-8 performance at the free throw line in the final two minutes to preserve the win.
E.O. Smith reached the final by beating Bristol Eastern 60-48 in the opening round then downing #1 seed Farmington 59-56 in the semi finals. Weaver defeated Northwest Catholic 69-62 in the opening round before knocking off South Windsor, which had beaten them by one point in December, and Smith, who scored a one-point win over Weaver in late January.
For the second straight year the tournament field was cut to eight teams due to excessive snow and postponements which forced teams to play regular season game past the tournament qualifying date.
