Wethersfield Wins Overtime Thriller

Lukas Szymecki scored three minutes into the game and then again with six minutes left in the second overtime to lift Wethersfield to a 2-1 win over Glastonbury for its first CCC Tournament championship. Keeper Dan Slayton held the #1 seed scoreless until late in the game when the Tomahawks tied it on a penalty kick, then withstood a strong Glastonbury push in overtime to preserve the win.

Wethersfield avenged an earlier 4-0 loss to Glastonbury during the regular season. It was the second povertime win of the tournament for the Eagles who needed extra time to beat South Windsor in the semi finals. Szymecki scored all four of the Wethersfield goals in the tournament.




Wethersfield advanced to the finals with a pair of hard fought 1-0 victories over East Hartford and South Windsor. Glastonbury advanced by ousting E.O. Smith and Avon by identical 3-0 scores. It was the first time in the tournament finals for both teams.

Maloney wins 2014 CCC Boys’ Soccer Tournament

Marcos Bozi scored midway through the second half and CCC South champion Maloney held on to defeat RHAM 2-1 and claim the 2014 CCC Boys Soccer Tournament championship. Top seeded RHAM challenged down the stretch but Maloney survived a late surge by the Sachems to preserve the win. Ricardo Lopez scored in the 33rd minute to give Maloney a 1-0 halftime edge, but Kyle Purcell hit the equalizer for RHAM early in the second half.
The winning goal came after a header from Lopez to Bozi after a free kick to the far post off the foot of Ozgur Horuz.
Maloney needed to survive a penalty kick shootout against Farmington to advance to the final. Keeper Cameron Fahey came up big with two saves in the shootout to allow Maloney to advance. RHAM survived a tough 1-0 decision over North Division champion Wethersfield in its semi final.
